This quilted christmas tree skirt is made with quality cottons in traditional colors of green, red and white. A truly lovely heirloom that will become a treasured part of your holidays that can be passed on. The fabrics are christmas themed featuring mini trees, little berry twigs, tiny pine branches, etc. Colors are dark forest green, creamy white and christmas red. For clarification please note the close up photo of the "pink" fabric, which in actual fact is not pink but rather tiny red branches on a white background.

The advanced piecing creates a large sawtooth star that will give a consistent visual from all angles of the tree. The red gingham ruffle in the center is an improvisational addition as I thought the center opening for the tree trunk was too big. The ruffle will fill in the space for smaller trees and still look wonderful around a larger trunk.

The measurement across the skirt from point to point is 47 inches, with the center opening measuring about 8 inches (not including ruffle).

I have quilted a freemotion design that adds nice texture detail. Freemotion refers to hand guided machine stitching, not computer guided. This means it is similar to the artistry of hand drawing and is why you will see some variation in shape and stitching of the design throughout the tree skirt.

If cleaning becomes necessary I recommend spot cleaning with a damp, clean cloth or launder with delicate settings and lay flat to air dry. Fabrics are not prewashed; so there will be a small amount of shrinkage if you launder in an machine, especially if you use a dryer with heat.

The backing is a plain muslin.

Features

I always use quality fabrics and thread. In addition to good quality materials, I am conscientious about making sure I use a full seam allowance. I never leave fabrics holding together by a few threads. This ensures a quality, handmade item, that will withstand normal care and use for many years.

The inner batting layer is usually Pellon or Hobbs 80/20. Occasionally I use a bamboo batting.

Binding is always double thickness and attached by machine for added durability, with neat mitered corners.

The nice thing about quilts is that the more you use them the softer and more snuggly they become. Don’t be afraid to use them wherever you want to be…. outside under the tree, in your car, on a picnic, on the hammock, in the family room, etc. After all, we wear cotton fabrics everyday in our clothes… your quilt won’t fall apart before it gets well loved!

Remember that sunlight will fade any fabric, and your quilt is no exception.  So; have a care when you leave it outside frequently or in a sunny window.

Care

I have often washed my own quilts in with a regular wash load, with no regrets. However, it is still recommended to use a gentle cycle, mild soap and tumble drying on low heat. (** Note: I rarely prewash my fabrics. Expect a small amount of shrinkage on the first laundering.) It is the tumble drying that achieves the soft crinkly look that we associate with handmade quilts. If you prefer a flatter look, lay flat to air dry… do not dry in the dryer.
